Hlebechuk, Rosemary Gene
Rosemary Gene Hlebechuk April 21, 1926 - December 10, 2014 On December 10, 2014, our mom joined our dad and brother Larry Alan in the arms of the Lord. Rosemary Gene Hlebechuk passed away in Spokane, Washington with family by her side. She was born in Eugene, Oregon on April 21, 1926 to Vada and Homer Mills. She was the third of four childern. She married our dad in 1943 and graduated from Mohawk Union High School in 1944. During WWII she traveled to Fort Pierce, Florida to be with our dad. During her time there she made many lifelong friends. She returned to Wendling, where she grew up, to raise her family. She worked at the Marcola Tavern and Prickett's greenhouse. She worked at Lane County Fairground for several years as well as concessions and usher for University of Oregon events She was an avid camper/outdoors person in her earlier years. Hunting and fishing were some of her skills besides keeping track of her three children when on these outdoor adventures. They were just that, because her camping days were before campgrounds were put in. Later on she became a talented ceramics artist. She was an avid bowler for many years and had quite a collection of trophies. When she had to give up bowling she found bingo. She loved to yell "Bingo". She played at many of the Bingo venues in Eugene, Springfield and in Spokane. She was a member of the Eagles and active in the Wendling Preservation. In 1985 she traveled to Fort Pierce, Florida for the dedication of the Navy-Seal Museum. Old friends and acquaintances were reunited. After her trip to Florida she enjoyed getting together with others from UDT-6 for mini reunions. She moved to Springfield where she lived until she moved to Spokane, Washington so her daughter could keep an eye on her. She found herself in a lovely retirement community there. She made many new friends and enjoyed the activities there. She loved playing pinochle and joined a small group of ladies who played bingo on Friday nights. She was a regular at craft classes. She had a green thumb and loved her flowers. Although she couldn't get down and dig in the dirt any longer she still loved to get her hands in the dirt. We moved the dirt closer to her with container gardening. She grew beautiful flowers and tomatoes on her little patio. She loved to play games, read and spend time with her family. She was a wonderful cook; her bean soup, French toast, oven fried chicken and desserts will be missed! In August of 2014 she made a trip to Oregon to meet her long awaited great granddaughter, Isla Mae. She is deeply missed by her son Walter Hlebechuk Jr, daughter Karlene Becker (Bill), sister Verdene Brown, and daughter-in-law Christine Hlebechuk. Her grandchildren Blaine Hlebechuk (Tina), April Nau (Dave), Jarrett Hlebechuk (Amy), Amber Larson (Marc), Salina Schultz, Zack, Seth and Sam Becker. Her great grandchildren Rahkim, Aiden, Ethan, Ryker, Jordan, and Isla. Her grand dogs Jake and Buton. Numerous nieces and nephews and her adopted sons Dennis Osburn and Mike Gambill and many more who called her mom and friend. There is no love like that of a mother. You were a good and loving mother. We love you and miss you every day. A celebration of life will be held May 9th at Veterans Memorial Building, 1626 Willamette St from 3-5. If you want to make a contribution in lieu of flowers please donate to Greenhill Humane Society.
