LOCAL WW II VET DIES
Marshall E. "Slim" McGuire passed away peacefully on May 28 at 98 1/2 . He was born & raised in Linn County, OR. The 3rd oldest of 8 children, he was predeceased by 5 siblings. His wife of 58 years passed away in 2001. He is survived by two daughters and four grandchildren. He served proudly in World War II
as a Staff Sergeant with the 426th Night Fighter Squadron based in China. He enlisted in the military on May 26, 1943 at San Francisco, CA. In June of 1944 he travelled to China via the Panama Canal, Australia, & India to his final destination in China. It was there that he performed exemplary service to his country. In September, 1945 he left China for "Uncle Sugar Able" (USA). He received an Honorable Discharge in late November, 1945, and enlisted in the USAF Reserves the same date until late 1948. He will always be remembered as part of "The Greatest Generation who Met & Defeated the Greatest Threat to Freedom in the History of the World". With the assistance of the American Legion Color Guard Post 10, Military memorial services will be held at Willamette Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11:30 am.
