Doris
Pauline Miller

Doris Pauline Miller of Cottage Grove passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 24, 2018. She was 96. She was born in Orland, California on May 1, 1922 to parents Matthew and Frances (Wilson) Kirkpatrick. Three generations of Kirkpatrick's arrived in Creswell in 1929 in a family freight wagon of possessions, with ten mules and they settled in upper Bear Creek. Doris graduated from Creswell High School in 1939 and attended two years at Eugene Business College. Doris married Clarence Miller in Twin Falls, ID. She worked one day a week at the outlying schools as a secretary for 22 years. "She knew hundreds of kids and their parents, and enjoyed the people so much, I am sure she will be remembered fondly." Doris liked to cook, can, and knit. She liked to sew and even made all her mother's clothes. "Mom was a holdover from a time when ships were made of wood, men made of steel, and women were made of titanium." She was a member of the Dorena Grange since 1960. Doris is survived by her son Harvey (Sue) Miller of Cottage Grove, OR; brother Gerald Kirkpatrick of Marcola, OR; sister Ruth Knox of Mountain View, ID; grandsons Roger Sutton and Clark Miller, 4 great granddaughters, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence Miller, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Our family would like to thank Sacred Home Health and Hospice for all the loving care they gave our mom. The family asks that you adopt a pet, enable hospice, or hug your mom. "Yar, Harvey Miller and family." A celebration of life will be on a later date. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove, Oregon. Please send your condolences on the online obituary at smithlundmills.com
