Janet Vaughn was born October 18, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Edward and Muriel Hilden. Her father was a dentist practicing in Minneapolis, and her mother was a homemaker. The family was complete three and one-half years later when her sister Doris was born.

Janet and Doris lived with their parents most of her single years, except for a short period when the family moved to Memphis, where their father taught at the University of Tennessee Dental School,

Janet finished her secretarial education at the University School of Business in Minneapolis. Her first job was with General Mills. During her first marriage, she lived in many cities, including Denver, Milwaukie, Detroit and Philadelphia. During this period she continued to work as secretary for several firms, including the newly-established Long Lines Department of AT&T in Denver.

After finding herself single while living in Philadelphia, she purchased a small 18 foot-travel trailer. She recruited an older friend (a non-driver) to accompany her and her dog on a cross country trip to Eugene. Her sister, Doris Vincent and husband Mel Vincent, nephew Ron Vincent and niece Patti Vincent had moved to Eugene during the winter of 1962. Her parents, after her dad retired, moved to Eugene in the fall of 1962. When Janet arrived in July, 1966 it made the first time the family had been together since 1950.

Janet married Edward Vaughn in July, 1972. Ed was a real estate broker and beginning in the fall of 1979 owned his own firm; Area Real Estate Assn. Janet worked at the University of Oregon beginning in the spring of 1968. She was employed first by the Special Education and then served as Administrative Assistant to Dean Lyn Rodney of the College of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

She left the University to become Ed's "right hand" when he opened his own firm in 1979. He died on December 1, 1998. Janet did volunteer work for her church one-half a day a week and also was both Vice President and Treasurer for the Blanche Markham Guild; and Assistant Social Director for the Sons of Norway. She served on the Board of Directors of Sunset Village in Springfield.

No service is planned.
