John was born in Eugene, Oregon, to Edith I. (Dix) Thramer and Allen Jackson Thramer. He married Diane Rader, his high school sweetheart, on July 4, 1954.

John was raised on his family farm near the banks of the Willamette River. He had many interests, most of which included craftmanship, exploration, and nature. John was a fine woodworker, a fly fisher who tied his own flies, a backpacker, and a private pilot. John loved animals and practiced husbandry and fed wild birds all his life. He was also a skilled auto mechanic, a trade he passed on to both of his sons. John loved RV adventures and was an avid reader. He never stopped trying new things and took up cooking in retirement while welcoming the internet as a doorway to more learning and exploring.

John was employed at Eugene Water and Electric Board for 42 years, retiring in 1997. His jobs included meter reader, groundman, lineman, power dispatcher and power broker.

John is survived by his wife, Diane, and their three children, Allen John Thramer (wife Dixie), Patrice Joan Thramer (partner Janelle Dahlsten), Darin Theodore Thramer (wife Ginger), sister, Katherine Joan Bruce, 8 grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren, a large extended family and many friends.

A celebration of John's life will be October 7, 2018, from 1pm to 4pm, at River Road Annex, 1055 River Road, Eugene, Oregon
