John Parsons, beloved husband and father passed away surrounded by members of his family on September 3rd, 2018.

He is survived by Sharon, his wife of 49 years, sons Eric Lundberg and Kyle Parsons, daughters Cathi Bettin, Lisa Kovac and Teresa Parsons McKenzie. He is also survived by eight grandchildren Austin Kovac, Rachelle McClure, Cameron Lundberg, Shane Lundberg, Max Parsons, Logan Parsons, Clay McKenzie and Claire McKenzie.

John was born on September 13, 1928 in Seattle, Washington to John Parsons Sr. and Ella Peeler Parsons. He was preceded in death by them and by his brother Wayne Parsons and sister Ollie Westling.

John played high school football for Queen Anne High School, joining the Marines upon graduation in 1946. John was released from the service after one year but was called back in 1951 to serve in Korea where he commanded a crew of a landing craft on the ImJim River. After his discharge John returned to work in Seattle and later in Eugene. In 1954 John joined the Eugene Police Department where he met and married his first wife Chris Bissell. After the birth of their two children, Chris died of cancer and John was left with two toddlers. In 1969 John and Sharon were married and two families became one. The house was full of 5 children and two adults!

John enjoyed salmon and stream fishing, scuba diving at Crescent Lake but his greatest love turned out to be running..5Ks, 10Ks and 18 marathons! Completing the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. was one of his proudest moments. John retired as a Sergeant from EPD in 1984 after a distinguished career.

During retirement John and Sharon enjoyed traveling in Europe and Australia, and then visiting in their motor home 49 of the 50 states. John's kindness, compassion and thoughtfulness will be remembered by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff at Churchill Estates for their dedication in caring for John and making his stay with them as comfortable as possible. A celebration of John's life will be held on what would have been his 90th birthday Thursday, September 13th at 3 p.m., at Musgrove Funeral Home 225 S. Danebo Ave. Remembrances may be made to the Eugene Mission.
