Joyce Ardelle Cunningham passed away September 3, 2018 due to complications of heart disease and end stage renal disease. She was born to Joy and Lucille Husted on September 10, 1934. Widowed from her first marriage, she married William A. Cunningham on July 20, 1956, and he adopted her daughter Shelley. William and Joyce had two children, Mark William and David Alan.

Joyce and Bill enjoyed square dancing, bowling, family vacations at Crescent Lake, a Caribbean cruise, trips to the coast, and many trips to visit family members.

Joyce was a cook with the Springfield school district, becoming head cook at Thurston Middle School. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and the craft of "Counted" cross stitch needle work. She made thousands of counted cross stitch pictures for her home and others. It was just one of the many ways she brought beauty and kindness into this world.

To her great grandkids, Joyce was known as "Big Grandma". She was a giver whose most important gift was being there for her family, whether it was for cooking for family gatherings, attending sport events, graduations, or as a caregiver for her husband in his declining years.

Joyce prevailed through a rare form of vasculitis, called Wegeners Granulomatosis. Then in July 2016, she unexpectedly had open heart surgery. Her driving force through all of this was wanting to be with her loved ones. As her quality of life became more affected by her ailments, her fighting spirit grew. This fighting spirit could be measured in the love and loyalty she had for family.. her greatest legacy.

Survivors include her three children, Shelley Falls of Springfield, Mark Cunningham (Jeanette) of Bend, David Cunningham (Mary) of Eugene, three grandchildren, Jim Falls (Tami), LeeAnne Cunningham, and Aaron Shannon, two great grandchildren, Hailey Falls and Riley Falls, and two great-great grand-children, Easton Kvanduch and Stella Kvanduch.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Along Came Trudy, located at 1486 18th Street, Springfield, OR between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13.

Your absence has gone through me.

Like a thread through a needle

Everything I do is stitched with its color.
