The Few, The Proud ? A Marine

Wednesday October 17, 2018, Larry E. Yturri, loving Husband, Father, and Papa peacefully passed away with family by his side at the age of 78.

Larry was born on 11-08-39 in Ontario, OR to George Yturri and Georgia (Taylor) Yturri. Larry was very proud of his family heritage. He enjoyed Spanish Basque festivals in Boise, ID and Reno/Sparks, NV. Holiday times always included Basque foods of chorizos, Basque beans and flan.

As a young boy he developed a love for metal toy soldiers. Hours were spent playing "war" with brother Lynn ? both boys continued their passion for the metal soldiers becoming collectors. Larry leaves a magnificent collection that he proudly kept on display. This passion has been carried down to son, David. Larry's favorite saying to his brother " He who dies first with the most soldiers ? WINS!!" Larry also had a passion for golf, graduating from Ontario High School in 1957 - he was on the golf team and he won the Oregon High School Championship that year. He was on the golf team in college during his 2 years at U of P and then later at Portland State (graduated with a degree in business). During his 4 years in the US Marines, he also played golf as a member of the Marine golf Team in San Diego and the Far East. Golf played a key role in his life with family and friends.

After graduating he took a job with Humble Oil as a Sale Rep and was assigned to Fresno and Stockton, CA. After 2 years he transferred to Portland and then to Eugene in 1968. He later sold real estate and had his own office with lifelong friend Gary Mill. Upon selling his office, he began his journey with Allstate insurance having his own office, selling later to retire. Larry enjoyed many good times in retirement - family BBQ's, watching the Irish and the Ducks, tailgating, golfing, and grandchildren ? being Santa and the Easter Bunny.

Larry was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit. He loved his God!

He loved hunting chuckers and pheasants in Eastern, OR. Larry Loved to travel ? countless golfing trips to Reno for 25 years with his "buds". Family vacations to Reno/Lake Tahoe- rafting the Truckee River, and trips to Florida, Arizona, and Canada - moments to remember always!

Larry was a member of Shadow Hills Country Club, Marist Men's Club, Life Member of the Elks, Rotary club, St. Thomas Newman Center and now St Alice. He was an avid Notre Dame Irish and Duck fan ? you didn't dare speak or walk in front of the TV if the Irish were on. His last words to his son David were "Go Irish - Go Ducks."

Larry was a kind and loving Dad who had a heart of gold. He loved his family and was proud of their accomplishments from sports to golf tournaments though dance classes and school programs. He was always there for each and everyone including his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, George, and his mother Georgia.

He is survived by his wife Janith (Lloyd) Yturri of 54 years. The first time he met her he told his brother " that is the girl I am going to marry" and he did!! He leaves 2 children David Lynn & Michelle Jane; 2 grandchildren, Mercedes Jane and Daygen Jeffrey; his brother Lynn Yturri (wife Suzanne) of Scottsdale, AZ; 2 nieces Kathy Wills & Lindsey Richards both of AZ; many loved cousins; Uncle Dick; dear family friend Br. Norbert Rodrique; and countless lifelong friends from his years in real estate and insurance.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Nov 8th , at 11 am at St. Alice Catholic Church, military graveside honors immediately following at Springfield Memorial Gardens.

He often said he had a wonderful life. Thank you all who made it so. The Marines suited his sense of order and code of loyalty. And when he meets St. Peter he will salute and say "Another Marine, reporting for duty, sir ? I've spent my time in hell."

Papa -

We were never ready for you to leave. We loved you your whole life. We will miss you for the rest of ours.

Larry helped jump start my adult, independent life by finding me the perfect house after a divorce. I've never forgotten him and his kindness.

Tailgating at the Duck games with Larry, David and my dad were some of the best times, even when the Ducks were not having a good game. Larry was funny and had a big heart. Semper Fi
