Patricia was born in Klamath Falls to Marjorie (McClure) and the late Henry H. Gallagher. Her mother later married Francis R. Olds. Pat graduated from Whitman College in 1942, married Robert D. Shaw. Her two older siblings were Robert Gallagher, and Elizabeth (Gallagher) O'Sullivan.
Pat and Bob lived in Portland, Coos Bay, and Eugene. They had 4 children: Stephanie, Scott, Dan, and Elizabeth, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, and celebrated 66 anniversaries together. Pat led an outdoor activity-filled life, but also enjoyed poetry, reading, piano, handwork, and P.E.O.
