Robert Clair Goodlin died at age 92 on September 26, 2018, while under hospice care following a long illness with heart failure and vascular dementia. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of over 67 years, Velma Snellstrom Goodlin, four children, and 10 grandchildren. Born to Emil and Ann Goodlin on June 27, 1926, he was raised with his sister Joanne in Eugene, Oregon. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. Educated at Stanford, University of Oregon, and University of Minnesota, he was a renowned professor of obstetrics for four decades.

His family remembers Bob as relentlessly curious, principled, creative and a scientist and contrarian who challenged common beliefs in his field. He published prolifically in obstetrics and was devoted to teaching. He valued hard work and had an exceptional ability to design and build structures about the home. Bob loved Velma, his children and grandchildren. Time with his family was paramount outside work. Bob and Vel enjoyed opera, symphony, and traveled widely. Bob maintained friendships with people from all phases of his life. Fellowship at church and with friends and family remained important to Bob, even late in life as his health declined.

A family service will be scheduled at a later date.
