Donald Jay
WEST ALEXANDRIA — Donald Jay, 89, of West Alexandria, and a brief resident of Richmond, Indiana and lifelong resident of Preble County, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at his residence.
Born on Dec. 1, 1923 in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late George & Nellie Elizabeth (Shivley) Jay. A 1942 graduate of Miamisburg High School, he was retired from GM in Moraine where he was a welder for 33 years. Donald was a veteran of WWII where he received the Purple Heart and was a life member of the DAV in Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Ona Naomi (Brown) Jay in 2001; son: Edmond "Monte" Atwell in 1975; granddaughter: Lisa Kosco Leeds in 1986; brothers: George, Virgil and Olin Jay and sisters: Kathryn Courtney and Virginia Kline.
He is survived by his wife of 6 years: Opal Jean (Minter) Jay, Richmond, Indiana; daughters and son-in-law: Barbara (Atwell) Bowman, Oxford, and Carolynn (Atwell) and Zane Leeds, Eaton; stepdaughter: Diana Gail Foster, Richmond, Indiana; stepson and daughter-in-law: Willie Charles (Sherri) Harrison, Richmond, Indiana; sister: Joyce Ruebush, Eaton, and Jean Ellen Michael, Arcanum; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held Monday, Nov. 11, at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, with Rev. Fred Hill officiating. Interment with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard was held in Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton.
