GIBBS, George Saunders September 2, 1922 - February 2, 2016 With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our much loved family patriarch George Gibbs. Predeceased by his brothers Paul and Jack, then Veronica his loving wife of over 50 years. He is survived by sons Bill (Judy) and Ron; grandchildren Angela, Aaron, and Britney; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and remaining friends. Born in Harlan, SK and raised through the hard times, then the war years, his lot got even tougher when he lost his eyesight in 62; his life was one of much toil and bravery as he met every new obstacle with a very energetic will to overcome, as he always very independently did. Honesty, caring humanitarian kindness, along with a very magnetic personality, saw him retire as the CNIB BC-YUK division superintendent, but his greatest pride of all was being acquainted and then ultimately involved in some charity work with Bobby Orr whom he met via his nephew Buck who was also a Bruin. He was very easy to love and admire by anyone who was blessed enough to meet him. His battles are all over now and he can rest easy with absolutely noone expecting him to be jammed up at the pearly gates; he won't even be breaking stride. God speed, sweet prince, and we'll miss you dearly. Services and Gathering to be held February 12, 2016, 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Ave., Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB would be more greatly appreciated by George.
