Vice, David George Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Credit Valley Hospital, with his family at his side. Loving husband of Roberta, devoted father of John (Debbie Vice), Cathy (Richard Smart) and Karen (Dave Wright), brother of John (Leslie Bullock) and brother-in-law of Janet Anne (Bob Palmer). Proud Granddad of Matthew, Andrew, Sarah, Michelle, Geoffrey, Shannon, Katie, Stephen and Lindsay. He was predeceased by his parents George and Helen Vice. David graduated in 1955 from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and in 1965 from Carleton University with a Master of Engineering. He received numerous honorary doctorate degrees in Science, Engineering and Laws from Queen's University, Technical University of Nova Scotia, University of Alberta, University of Ottawa and McMaster University. In 1991 he was elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and in 2000 received the Reginald A. Fessenden award from IEEE Canada. David retired in 1992 from Northern Telecom as Vice Chairman after a distinguished 37 year career and over his career was very active speaking about and promoting Canadian competitiveness in Manufacturing, Engineering and Education. He was a former member of the boards of Northern Telecom, Pittsburgh Paint and Glass (PPG), Stackpole, Sun Life and Queen's University Board of Trustees. Very active in the community, he was a past Chairman of the Canadian Native Arts Foundation, President of the Telephone Pioneers of North America, President of AIPPI, Chairman of The Canadian Manufacturers' Association and past Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. He was a member of the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club, the Port Credit Yacht Club and The Probus Club of Mississauga South. Full of life, David was an avid boater, skier, golfer and pianist and will be fondly remembered by his many friends and extended family. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St. Mississauga (Hwy. 10 N. of QEW) from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Christ Church, United, Clarkson 1700 Mazo Crescent, Mississauga (Truscott Dr. at Clarkson Rd.) on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place.
