Jonathon Wangnild Obituary

Jonathon Edward Wangnild,42,of Meeker, CO passed away from a horse accident on June 27th 2013. He was born on December 21, 1970 in Laramie, Wyoming, to William and Laurel Wangnild. Jon as everyone knew him was an avid outdoorsman starting in his youth on the family ranch near Glendevey, Colorado. Jon moved to Loveland, CO in 1979 and graduated from Thompson Valley High School in 1989. Following his passion of hunting and fishing, he graduated with a degree in Wildlife biology and a minor in Range Management from CSU in 1993 hoping to pursue a career as a Game Warden. Jon was hired on with the Arizona Game and Fish Department and worked out of the Kingman, AZ office until 2002. He married Shey Miller in Kingman in 1998. Then he got a job with the Colorado Division of Wildlife. After training, he got his ideal position out of the Meeker, CO office. He referred to Meeker as the Serengeti of the West. His family grew with the addition of a son Charles Jonathon and another Kyle Miller, and his lovely daughter Melayni Grace. His children were his greatest joy in life. He was a great father who loved every moment he spent with them. He was very fortunate to have a job where he could let the children tag along and observe many fun things. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends and traveled across the western states bird hunting with his beloved dogs. In Meeker, he enjoyed working with ranchers and others to improve the wildlife habitat and creating hunting opportuinities for others that enjoyed his same passions. One of the things he always enjoyed was helping out with the youth hunts they would organize with local land owners and kids that were just beginning. He also enjoyed volunteering to teach hunter education, youth shooting sports, and on his sons' baseball teams over the years. Jon's faith in Christ was strong and helped others in their faith journey too. He is survived by his parents William and Laurel Wangnild of Loveland, CO; his wife Shey and sons CJ, Kyle, and daughter Melayni of Meeker, CO; his sister Holly Suess and husband Rick of Loveland, CO; his brother Daniel Wangnild and wife Brenda of Loveland, CO; his brother Benjamin Wangnild and wife Melissa of Fort Collins, CO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral Services will be held in Meeker, CO at the Meeker United Methodist Church at 11:00am on Tuesday July 2, 2013, a tribute to Jon from the Colorado Division of Wildlife will be held afterwards at the Circle Park with food to follow in Meeker. Donations for the children's college fund may be made to the Jon Wangnild Memorial Account at the First National Bank of the Rockies P.O. Box 600 Meeker, CO 81641.

Not sure what to say?

The Rio Blanco County fair won't be the same this year without Jon to keep us straight in the 4-H wildlife and shooting sports projects. Jon knew every member's age and which unit their project was in. He had worked with some of our members for many years and lessons have stuck with these kids. Shey and family: Know that Meeker enfolds you.

So sorry for you loss, may God help you through this time of sorrow. I will always remember John and the neighborhood gang riding three wheelers and snowball fights in the snow. He would drive up and down the street and he snow would fly 8 foot in the air as he did donuts. What fun they had! He truely loved being outdoors and nature. He will truly be missed. We are so sorry for the loss of your dear Son Jon! We are not able to express in words the shock in finding out what happened. May the Lord God hold you up during this tremendously difficult time. It does not seem very natural that a child will go Home before his parents but the Lord is ALWAYS there to hold us up no matter the situation. We certainly will be praying for your whole family as you get thru this. Our question concerning his Salvation/relationship to Jesus Christ was answered in the obituary and we THANK THE LORD for we know that Jon is in HIS presence at this time...Praise His Name! Tom & Dawn (I am speaking for my dear wife who has not a clue as to anything going on but I KNOW that she is with me in this note to you).
