Barbara Ann Johnson, 88, of Platteville, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at her home. Barbara was born on December 4, 1925 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Clarence A. and Donna (Sterling) Hodges. Barbara attended Hutchinson High School. She worked as a Grocery Store Clerk and as a waitress at the Sugarbowl Café in Platteville. She then worked at Hewlett-Packard, where she retired after 20 years. On November 10, 1945, she married Arthur Johnson, Jr. in Hutchinson. In 1946, they had their daughter, Christina and in 1950, their son, Robert. In 1952, they moved to Platteville. Barbara was active with the Senior Center. Barbara was a very loving sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Sunday dinners with the family were very important to her. Her favorite baseball team was the Colorado Rockies. Barbara enjoyed fishing with her family, playing games, traveling in the motor home and was a seamstress in her early years, making clothes for her daughter. She also grew the biggest peony garden in Platteville. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Christina J. Young (Pat); son, Robert A. Johnson; two sisters, Ila Phillips and Genie Popp; three grandchildren, Sharie Bland, Jason Johnson and Crystal Young; nine great-grandchildren, Dalton David Bland, Wade Daniel Bland, David Johnson, Drew Johnson, Alex Johnson, Ava Johnson, Sylvia Johnson, John Wayne Young and Rebecca Morgan Young. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at Mizpah Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Community Center in Platteville.
