Carl Coff

Carl George Coff, 86, died peacefully at Good Samaritan Retirement Village, Loveland, on Sunday, February 24th, after a brief illness. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Carl was born on July 1, living with his parents Aage born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Astrid Renghild Coff, born in Finland, and brother Borge also born in Finland, until enlisting in the Navy at the age of 17. He served aboard the Destroyer USS Collett in the South Pacific during WWII, receiving numerous military honors. His tenure in the Navy is where Carl learned the skills which would be his future career as an electrician. Carl married Charlotte Ann O'Brien in May 1954, and after honeymooning in New Hampshire, settled in Malden, Massachusetts, becoming father to Charlotte Claire. Daughter Carlene Ann was born in 1955, before Carl and family began moving to various naval stations throughout the United States. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of active service, in 1964. He became a member of the City of Santa Clara electric department in 1966 before moving to Ft. Collins and joining Platte River Power, until his retirement in 1988. In 1997, widower Carl married Shirley Brower and made their home in Loveland. Carl was an accomplished woodworker, electrician and gardener in retirement. He was active with the local veteran's organization and All Saints Episcopal Church. Carl will be remembered as dedicated to his family, his faith, and his country. Carl is survived by his wife of 15 years, Shirley Brower Coff of Loveland, his daughter Charlotte Perkins, and husband Jim, of Lakeport, CA, and granddaughter Lauren Timmermans of Chandler, AZ. He is also survived by his adopted family which includes Shirley's three children, Linda Davidson and husband, Robert, Loveland; Lisa Lindsey, Manhattan, Kansas; and Chris Brower and his wife, Julie, Sterling, Colorado. Carl formed a close relationship with Shirley's brother, Everett Bennett and his girlfriend, Lynne Watkins, of Loveland. There are 8 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on this side of the family Carl is preceded in death by his daughter Carlene, her mother, his brother and parents. Following cremation with Resthaven Funeral Home, Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, February 28th 10am at All Saints Episcopal Church in Loveland; luncheon to follow. The Rev.
