John William "Bill" Peterson

In the early hours of November 6th, 2012, Loveland lost a strong member of its community. Bill Peterson was a gentle and peaceful man. In keeping with his true character, he died gently and peacefully. His mind was sharp until the very end, but the rest of his body was tired and sought relief. Born March 12th, 1931 to to John E. "Pete" and Ariastene (Dana) Peterson, in Loveland, Colorado, Bill grew up in Loveland when it was a community small enough to know most everyone by name. He graduated from Loveland High School in 1949, which was housed in the school now known as Bill Reed. After High School, Bill attended Drake University in Iowa, where he met Alberta Hoskin, his wife for the majority of his life. Bill went on to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder, to obtain his pharmacy degree. It was here that Bill and Alberta began their family, welcoming Richard Earl and John Dana, the first of their five sons. Bill proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; an act he was proud of all of his life, as his commitment to the American Legion and the VFW illustrate. Bill went into business with his father at W&T Pharmacy after finishing school, and settled in Loveland with his growing family. James William, Charles Leslie and Jeffrey Hoskin Peterson were all born in Loveland. In 1960, Bill opened Westlake Pharmacy, in Loveland's first shopping center at the corner of Highway 34 and Taft. It was here that Bill began to flourish, and others took note of his serene and kind ways. There was a name never forgotten, a face that was never met with anything other than a smile. Families were always asked about, and friendships were formed, and bonds were made that lasted lifetimes. Bill was an avid polka dancer and for many of his retired years, he served as a Polka Promoter. Always known for his cars, Bill became synonymous with the 1964 Ford Station Wagon, and 1962 Corvette he drove around town, both purchased new from local dealers. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeff and grandson Tom. Bill is survived by his sons Dick (Mary), John (Daniela), Jim (Pam) and Chuck and grandchildren Jill, April, Bailie, Caitlin, Cole and Karissa, and Great Grandson, Richard Jeffery, all from the surrounding area. He is also survived by his brother Charlie (Susan) of Ft.Collins and his sister Nancy (Bob) Josserand of Hereford, TX. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, at 10:00a.m., at the First Christian Church in Loveland. Interment, Loveland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to House of Neighborly Services in care of Kibbey- Fishburn.
