Hadgie Boegli Obituary
Hadgie W. Boegli, 95, of Loveland, Colorado was born March 20, 1919 just outside Hustonville, Kentucky to Mamie 'Wall' and William Maddox. At age 10 her dad passed away so she, her brother Guy and their mother went to live with her grandparents. Hadgie later graduated in a class of 15 at nearby McKinney High School. Guy, who was deaf from birth, was away at school for most of the school year. Hadgie and her husband Jay met in Indianapolis in the spring of 1940. She worked as a waitress and he was a corporal in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison. They fell in love and were later married in a church wedding in Indianapolis on November 30, 1940. One month later, Corporal Boegli went on active duty as a second lieutenant in the regular Army. For the next 17-1/2 years, Hadgie followed her husband wherever he was stationed, except when he was in combat in Europe with General Patton's Third Army. During that time, Hadgie lived with two of her cousins in Franklin, Indiana. Following the war, Jay and Hadgie spent three years in Japan, followed by three years in Germany during the occupation. Jay's last duty assignment in the military was as Commander of ROTC in Bangor, Maine. Following retirement on April 30, 1957, he and Hadgie moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico at the encouragement of close friends. Forty years later they moved to Lakewood, Washington, and finally to Loveland, Colorado to be near family. Hadgie's favorite pastimes included archery while in living Japan, playing bridge, golf and, later in life, quilting. She has always been an avid reader, particularly of mysteries. Hadgie is preceded in death by her husband Jay and daughter Barbara. She is survived by son Bill (Pat); daughter Genie; grandchildren Pollyann (David), Amy (Doug), Stacy (Mark); and great grandchildren Destin, Casey, Cody and Payton. Services will be held at Loveland United Methodist Church at 10:00 on July 17th. Inurnment will be held for both Hadgie and husband Jay at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2:00 following the services. In lieu of flowers please donate to Pathways Hospice who provided loving care and support to both mom and dad during their final days!
