Carol S. Gattis, 78, of Loveland died Thursday, February 14th at her home. She was born May 7, 1934 in Chanute, Kansas to Ray C. and Dorothy H. Barker. She graduated from Denver East High School, attended Colorado Women's College, earned her B.A. from Wichita State University, and her M.A. from the University of Northern Colorado. Carol married Dean Schroeder in Wichita, Kansas on January 23, 1955. He died on March 30th, 1956. On June 2, 1957, Carol married H. Marcus "Marc" Gattis, Jr. in Wichita. They raised three children, Scott Marcus Gattis, Linda Lee Spreitzer, and Amy Helen Goeden. Carol's beloved husband Marc passed away in their Loveland home on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2005, eight years to the day before her Lord & Savior called her home. They had moved their family to Loveland in 1969 and adorned their car with the license plate LUVLAN to show their deep affection for the city. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Loveland for 43 years and served in many capacities. Carol was a person of deep faith and had participated in Bible Study Fellowship of Fort Collins for eight years. During her life she worked as a teacher and travel agent. Carol loved her family deeply and was an amazing mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and many other friends and loved ones knew her as "Bubba." She will be remembered for her love of life, love for others, her sense of humor, and grace. Carol was a member of the Loveland
and was recently elected as a club director, served as a Senior Counselor at Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) for three years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. She was involved in many other community groups in Loveland, including Loveland Music Guild and Foothills-Gateway Service League. Survivors are three children and their spouses, Scott and Carolyn Gattis of Greeley, Linda and John Spreitzer, Jr. of Loveland, and Amy and Jerry Goeden of Windsor, six grandchildren, Melissa Dawn Gattis, Grant Marcus Gattis, John Marcus Spreitzer, Joel Scott Spreitzer, Holly Janelle Spreitzer, Lindsey Elise Goeden and chosen grandson Branden Lane Greenstreet, sister-in-law, Dee Barker of Aurora, a brother, Milt Thiem and wife Stella of Omaha, NE, brother-in-law Donald Gattis and wife Marilyn of Wichita, two nephews and one niece. She also leaves behind her beloved constant companion, Ziggy. A celebration of Carol's life will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 23rd at First United Methodist Church of Loveland. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Loveland Rotary Foundation or First United Methodist Church in care of Allnutt Funeral Service. An online obituary and guest book are at
