LaVonne Mock Obituary
LaVonne was born on a homestead in Midway, NM where her granddad had filed a claim after being flooded out of Lexington, TX to parents Perry and Bertha "Griffin" McGaha on February 24th, 1921 at 11 a.m. She was the third child of six born to the family-Mertice Lee, Curtis D, Opal LaVonne, Olive Leon, Mary Glynne and Maidalyn. Growing up, she loved music and began playing the mandolin and singing at age 12. With her on the mandolin and her brother Curtis on the guitar, they would sing and entertain at various places including a yearly forensics competition. Later after moving to Loveland, she taught herself to play the piano and loved to sing at church with a beautiful alto voice. After high school, she went to Portales, New Mexico to work as a seamstress for a Ready to Wear store called Tripplet and Mock. There she met and fell in love with Andrew "Andy" Mock and was subsequently married to him in 1944. In 1946 they had their first child, Ronald and moved to Loveland in 1948 where in 1949 they opened a shoe store called Mock's Shoes. LaVonne had taken courses on book keeping and management and took care of the books at the shoe store until it was sold in 1964. At that time, Andy had opened a clothing store called Mock's Fashions and she and he ran that store until his passing in 1982. She continued to operate the store until her retirement in 1998 for a total of 33 years at Mock's Fashions and 50 years as a business woman in Loveland.
