Edward Gee Obituary
Edward "Ed" Gee passed away June 10 at the age of 79. Born in Ackerman, Mississippi, he spent his child hood playing in the Mississippi woods and helping to support his widowed mother and family with two paper routes before exaggerating about his age and voluntarily enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 16 years to better support his family. He was sent to Korea and took part in the Korean War where his true age was discovered and he was honorably discharged. Waiting another year until he was 17 years old and this time with his mother's permission, Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam and completed a 24 year military career before retiring. Ed then worked briefly for a Utility Plant Design Company in Denver, CO where he completed an Associate's Degree in Accounting and decided that he was not cut out for working behind a desk. He became a licensed Truck Driver and transported over-sized loads around the country for the next 17 years. Ed loved truck driving and being on the road so much so that he and wife Michelle drove their 5th wheel all over the country and even into Mexico. Ed moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1984, where he met and married his wife Michelle Gee. Ed and Michelle were married for 28 years and spent their married life in Loveland, Colorado. Ed Gee battled and beat lung cancer in 1987 but continued to drive trucks until 1994 when he finally retired. Ed continued to struggle with pulmonary-related ailments for the next 26 years when he finally succumbed to a second battle of cancer which was very aggressive and this time terminal. He fought bravely with dignity and with his usual light-hearted humor until the very end. Ed is survived by his wife Michelle Gee, 5 children (Linda Arbogast and husband Mike, Karen Rubio and husband Ed, Laurie Patzer-all of Loveland, CO), Ed Gee of Scottsdale, AZ, and Misty Darnell of Springfield, MO), two step children (Rob Cameron and wife Sharel of Loveland and Lauree Cameron of Friendsville, TN),15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, 3 sisters Corrine Frutos of Garland, TX, Vera Pruden of Bogalusa, LA, and Doris Miller of Jackson, MI. Ed's death was preceded by his parents Charles and Avis Gee, brother, Charles, and sister, Avis. Funeral services will be at 9:00 am Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland. Visitation will take place prior to the service. Military honored services and interment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemeter in Denver, CO following services. Memorial contributions may be sent in his name to Pathways Hospice and Camp Courageous (a camp for handicapped children) in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home.
