Don Mullison Obituary

Don W. Mullison, 89, of Fort Collins, died September 14, 2013 at a local nursing home. Mr.Mullison was born July 4, 1924 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Fred Mullison and Anna Fagg Mullison. Don married Nyline A. Wallace who preceded him in death. Don "Tuffy" Mullison was a longtime fixture in Fort Collins and part of the transition of Colorado A&M College to Colorado State University. He played football for the Colorado Aggies in 1942 before serving in the Pacific during World War II. He returned to Colorado A&M in 1946 where he played football until 1948 and was a member of Bob Davis' Raisin Bowl team. He was appointed as the assistant line coach of the football program in 1952 and assistant wrestling and baseball coach. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed as the head wrestling coach and served in that position until the 1970's. He helped Bob Davis guide the 1955 Aggies to the Skyline Conference championship in 1955 before being named as the head football coach in 1956. He served in that position until 1961. He was an excellent student and was invited to join Phi Kappa Phi educational honorary society and also served as a long time professor at CSU. As well as his academic and football achievements, Mr. Mullison was a champion wrestler, and was twice an NCAA runner up. He was inducted into the Colorado State University Hall of Fame in 1990. He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting and loved playing poker at the Elks Club. Survivors include his son, Michael Mullison and daughter-in-law Sunita Sharma of Windsor; daughter, Mindy Romero of Fort Collins; brother, Ray Earl Mullison of Fort Morgan; six grandchildren, Shallane, Christopher, and Brian Mullison, and Zachary, Tyler, and Derek Romero; as well as two great grandchildren, Serenity Romero and Alivia Romero. A Memorial Service will be held at Bohlender Fuenral Chapel on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Paul McGraw will officiate the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Colorado State University in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
