William Connole Obituary

William (Bill) Roger Connole, Jr., born April 11, 1950, passed away June 3, 2015 at the age of 65. Bill was the second of five children and spent his childhood in Connecticut and Maryland. He graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, MD in 1969 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Regis University in 1973. Bill was the swim team captain and played football for Georgetown Prep. He swam and played rugby at Regis University, and enjoyed playing rugby after college with the Denver Highlanders, who competed internationally. Bill spent his early years in the construction business, working on commercial and residential projects throughout Denver and Northern Colorado. He moved on to a successful 17-year career in Information Technology with Activent Solutions, Inc. Bill also worked for the U.S. Census Bureau, Home Depot, and Measured Progress. As a skilled craftsman he had been working towards opening his own wood-working business out of his Loveland woodshop where he completed many projects for private businesses and individuals in Northern Colorado. In 2014 Bill won a battle with cancer and decided to focus on doing the things he loved: woodworking, racquetball, brewing beer, attending sporting events, taking walks and teaching his children and grandchildren. His home was a welcoming place for friends, family, and neighbors to visit. Bill is survived by his son Damien Harr, daughter Yelena Gregg, son Travis Harr-Connole, sister Mary Connole, sister Tracey Connole, brother John Connole and five grandchildren. Memorial contributions and donations may be made in Bill's name towards a future fund with the Thompson Education Foundation and sent to Viegut Funeral Home. The primary purpose of this fund would be to encourage the exposure of elementary age children in the local school districts to math and science. Condolences and dedications may be left at www.viegutfuneralhome.com.

Although I only have a few distant childhood memories of Billy, I feel like I knew your Dad quite well. I am sure your brother brought an equal amount of fun and joy to your lives as Uncle Bill did to ours. So sorry for your loss and love always.

Bill always made my days at Regis more colorful and life a lot more interesting. The memories are the Best. Oh what a life we all shared.

I'll never forget Billy (going way back) as a denizen of our old childhood neighborhood (we were the baby-boomer dictatorship of the hood). One of my favorite memories is Billy (maybe age 10?) confronting the dogcatcher, who happened to collar Billy's dog who was innocently hanging out on the sidewalk across Rockmere and up the hill near us kids. One of us saw what was going down, fetched Billy just as the mean SOB was trying to put his dog in the paddy wagon. I admired Billy's righteous indignation and determination as he pummeled and cursed the surprised dog cop until he let go of his dog. Billy loved dogs.

I was the "little" brother of Billy's best friend, Jody, and Billy and Jody told me to "get lost" every now and then when I was being a hanger-on. But they did allow me to accompany them on my first excursion (two mile jaunt) to the Apex (my first movie theater experience, Ben Hur). Billy (and my brother) learned to treat me coequally on into teenage and beyond.

Mary, Johnnie, Tracey: Of course you recall that neighbors generally felt secure and didn't lock their doors in that neighborhood in those days, and ours was no exception (impossible with all the brothers and sisters gong to and fro). I remember that Billy often would come right in through our door (front or back) without knocking but announcing his presence - looking for Jody - pausing only to research the contents of our refrigerator and picking out what pleased his palate. Kid had a lot of nerve! (hoping that he would not take my liverwurst sandwich. And my dear mother, admittedly a pushover for kids of a certain age-group and charisma, stood there in the kitchen and bantered with Billy while he helped himself. Billy had her charmed, and she never denied him raiding our cupboard.

Billy was charming, tough, and intellectually curious. When I joined my brother, Billy, Jimmy, and Billy's college roommate from Regis painting houses in the summer for college spending money - Billy and Jody dealt with the monotony by talking physics.

I am glad for these and other precious memories of Billy.

I also remember Billy was peerless in the breast-stroke when he was a youngster. I once saw him finish almost a full length ahead of the field at a championship meet at Congressional.

My family extends our deepest sympathies to all of Billy's family.
