June Campbell Obituary

June Claire (Stelter) Campbell

Sauk City, WI

June Claire (Stelter) Campbell, 89, of Sauk City, WI, passed on to heaven at St. Clare Hospice House, Baraboo, WI, after a long struggle with breast cancer on June 28, 2013. Her daughter, Judy Shomberg, was at her side through all her travails and was at her side during passing. June was born in Milwaukee, WI on June 1, 1924 to Juliet F. Bernhard and Clarence S. Stelter. She was raised in Lake Park, Iowa where she played basketball, participated in the marching band and was valedictorian of her senior class. She obtained her Medical Technology degree from Lake Buena Vista College and went on to work at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and then the Dean Clinic in Madison, WI.

She married Duane Allyn Campbell in Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison on June 10, 1950. They ultimately celebrated 55 years together. They have five children: Jana Sue (Michael) Albers of Grand Rapids, MN, Judith Lynn (James) Shomberg of Mazomanie, WI, Brian Clare (Karen) Campbell of McFarland, WI, Jean Ellen Campbell of Abilene, TX and Bruce Gordon Campbell of Verona, WI. Their five grandchildren are: Lauren Campbell, James C. Shomberg, Elizabeth Albers, Erin Campbell and Tess Campbell.

June's life was highlighted by her loving and giving nature demonstrated by her service to her family and to others. She volunteered with the Bethel Estate Sales group for 25 years in Madison and joined St. John's Lutheran quilting group after she and Duane moved to Sauk City, WI.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband and parents and also by two life long friends, Alice Eken and Kathleen Ganser.

The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the medical professionals, volunteers and care giving staff at St. Clare Hospice House that loved and supported June through to her journey's end.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Prairie du Sac Cemetery in Prairie du Sac, WI. The service will be officiated by Rev. Sally Williams of St. John's Lutheran Church. Friends are welcome. Memorials may be made to St. Clare Hospice House, Baraboo, WI.

Her husband Duane was a fine poet and he wrote Spirit Tracks---With myriad kindred born on high, I meet each dawning sun of summertime. Until, each day is done, and then, in autumn's darkening hush, with fluttering crimson heart, I fall, with the earth to be, as one. And then, when the winter's cold winds blow I leave my spirit tracks in the snow. - By Duane Campbell
