Steve L. Oudems, lifelong resident of Knox City, Texas passed away Friday evening, September 20, 2013 in Knox City. Steve was 46. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Knox City. Interment will take place immediately following the services at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home. A visitation is planned for Friday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 at the funeral home in Knox City located at 210 Avenue A.

On May 3, 1967, Steve L. Oudems (aka Stevie Wonder) was born to the proud parents of Manuel and Charlene Oudems in Knox City, Texas. He graduated from Knox City High School in 1985 and was part of the 1983/84 Greyhounds State Champion Football team. Steve joined the Army after high school where he was stationed at Ft. Ord, California. He returned home to Knox City after proudly serving his country and being honorably discharged.

He worked in the oil field for Ledesma Oil Field Services and most recently, 5 Star Oil Field Services. Steve was a hard worker who would labor seven days a week, if needed. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. In his leisure time, Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, and weight lifting.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Charlene Oudems; and sister, Nedria Oudems.

He will be sorely missed by family and friends, but most importantly, his brother, Anthony C. Oudems of Houston; sister, April L. Oudems of Dallas; daughter, Cherrelle Branch of Oklahoma City, OK; grandmother, Dorotha M. Alexander of Knox City; uncle, David L. Hendrix of Knox City; 2 nephews, Ronnelle L. Oudems of Abilene and Jasmine L. Oudems of Wichita Falls; niece, Summer C. Oudems of Munday; and a host of cousins, aunts, and uncles.
