Laura Leah Cox, 51, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at her home. Services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Merkel with Pastor Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Laura was born August 20, 1965 in Weatherford, Texas. She graduated from Merkel High School in 1984 and married Chris Cox June 14, 1986 in Merkel. She worked for United Savings (which became Bank of America) from 1984 to 1994. Laura owned /operated Settler's Crossing (a gift shop and tea room) from 1999 to 2005. Her greatest fulfillment in life was being a loving wife to Chris and wonderful mother to her son, Dalton. She enjoyed crafting, scrap-booking and antiquing. Laura loved and adored her special great nieces and nephews. She was a member of Elm Valley Community Church.

Survivors include her husband, Chris Cox of Buffalo Gap; son, Dalton Cox and wife Caroline of St. Louis, MO; mother, Joyce Long of Buffalo Gap; two sisters, Tara Castille and husband Steve of Merkel and Mary Kinnard of Buffalo Gap; three brothers of Buffalo Gap; mother-in -law, Norma Byers of Merkel; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Kathy Armstrong of Merkel.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mamie and Loy Brown; father-in-law, Charles Byers; one brother and one sister; and sister-in-law, Patti Farmer.
