Father Birdwell was our Episcopal priest and a very close friend of my parents, Bennett and Pansy Brooke. Until dad's (Bennett, Sr.) death in December 2014, dad would call Steve monthly. They always shared a close friendship and will always be members of "the greatest generation".
There are no words to share our sorrow for the loss of Father Birdwell. He will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched and blessed. He and Charlene will always be a part of our lives and we are blessed with their memories.
May the peace and love of God bless and keep Father Birdwell and comfort his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cindy and Scott and the Birdwell family.

I remember when he visited Bernice Hart and they would listen to old records of the great jazz artist and I would clean her house to the music, he always had a kind word for me and a smile.

We have lost a saint. When we first moved from Richardson to Big Spring in 1977, we stopped by St. Mary's to check out a new church home. The moment I met Fr. Birdwell it was like I was destined to have been there at that time. His personal influence rekindled my faith and led me down a path that has never ended.
He was so meaningful in our lives and the lives of our children that we will never forget him.
May light perpetual shine upon his departed spirit.

Fr. Steve was a favorite supply priest for St. Mark's in Coleman. We add prayers for the repose of his soul.
