Ronald Lee Abernathy, 72, of Cayuga, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at Union Hospital in Clinton.

He was born Jan. 30, 1941 in Fountain County, a son of Orville D. and Maxine E. Coffing Abernathy. He married Judith K. Fultz July 16, 1995 in Cayuga. She survives as well as a brother Alan (Pam) Abernathy of Covington, two daughters, Hope (Steve) Carlson of Mahomet, Ill., and Melanie (fiancé Alan Newman) Harvey of Pemberville, Ohio, two step-daughters, Robin (John) Bryant of Eugene and Renee (Jimmie) White of Perrysville, grandchildren, Audrey and Ethan Carlson, Patrick Jennings and Hope Harvey, five step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron graduated from Covington High School. He joined the Army in 1961 serving until 1967. He became a State Farm agent in 1970 for 12 years then started driving semis. In 1983 he became an owner/operator and leased to different companies until retiring in 2008. He was a member of American Legion Post 263 and a retired member of the Cayuga Fire Department where he was a past Fire Chief. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and playing Euchre with family and friends.
A celebration of Ron's life will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the American Legion in Cayuga. According to Ron's wishes, he will be cremated and burial will be at a later date.
