Cyril Osborn Burt


Cyril Osborn Burt, 90, of St. Anthony passed away Wednesday morning May 8, 2013, at the St. Anthony Homestead Assisted Living Center from cancer.
He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in St. Anthony Idaho, to William and Ethel Burt. He was raised in St. Anthony and Fruitvale, Idaho, and graduated from high school in Council, Idaho. Cyril returned to St. Anthony where he met Maxine Hobbs. He served three years in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy in World War II. He returned and married Maxine, March 20, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Cyril was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities. Cyril and Maxine worked as officiators in the Idaho Falls temple and served a mission in San Jose, California. He served in the family history center for 11 1/2 years.
Cyril was active in The Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years and earned the Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver awards and was inducted into the Scouting Hall of Fame in 2012.
He enjoyed working in the agricultural industry. In 1970, he started Tri-County Equipment.
He was a member of the Fremont County School Board, served three terms in the Idaho State Legislature and served on the St. Anthony City planning and Zoning.
Cyril loved to waltz with Maxine, hunt, fish, golf, travel, and take care of the yard.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of St. Anthony, daughters, Kathleen (Wes) Donahoo, of Rexburg; Kristine (Jack) Salmon, of Raymond Alberta Canada; Kenneth (Dixie) Burt, of Rexburg; Stephen (Darla) Burt, of Rexburg; Susan (Craig) Hammond, of Ashton, and Marilyn (Larry) Stone, of Parker. They enjoy 21 grandsons, 16 granddaughters, 33 great- grandsons, and 38 great-granddaughters
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters, his son, William Cyril (Billy) Burt; a grandson, David Lee Hammond; and great-granddaughter, Mary Ethne Stone.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013 at the St. Anthony LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the St. Anthony LDS Stake center and Monday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Parker Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bishop Brent Thompson of the St. Anthony 2nd Ward and Bert Flamm Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.flammfh.com.
