David Ross Ritchie died Aug. 20, 2014, in a traffic accident. David was born June 5, 1986 in Kansas City, Mo. He was the son of Steffen Ritchie and Dawn Patterson. In the fall of 1992 his family moved to Rexburg, where he started elementary school at Adams. He graduated from Madison High School in 2005 and started working at Walmart shortly after graduating.
He was heavily involved with Special Olympics. His team was the Rigby Wranglers. In 2009, he had the opportunity to go to China with Special Olympics. He played soccer there and got a bronze medal. He was a global messenger. So he went to schools and businesses to raise awareness about Special Olympics.
In 2012, his family moved back home to Kansas City. David loved to spend time with his grandpa. They watched all the sports games together. David was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints.
David was preceded in death by his father, Steffen Ritchie; grandparents, Jay and Arlene Ritchie and grandmother, Pat Patterson.
David is survived by his mother, Dawn Ritchie, of Blue Springs Mo.; brother, Nathan Ritchie, of Provo Utah; sisters, Leah Hansen (Gary), of Fairfax, Va. and Anna Ritchie, of Blue Springs, Mo.
Funeral services were held Aug. 26, 2014 in Blue Springs, Mo., with burial at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the Madison High School football field at 7 p.m.
