Vern Winegar, 81, passed away July 7, 2013 in the Madison Hospital, following an illness with lung cancer.

Vern was born May 5, 1932, in St. Anthony, Idaho, the son of Alvin Wesley Winegar and Selma Erickson Winegar. Vern grew up in the Egin Bench area, attending the old Heman School and high school in Sugar City.
Vern married Dorothy McMinn on Jan. 28, 1955, in Rexburg, Idaho.
Vern joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 21 years.
He and Dorothy traveled a lot while in the service, living in Florida, Arizona, Mississippi, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and Oklahoma, finally retiring and moving back to Idaho in l971. He was also stationed in Turkey, but his wife stayed in the states.
Vern also worked for the St. Anthony Reform School, Kmart and Tibbitts Warehouse.
He enjoyed hunting fishing, and building things.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy, children, Steve Winegar, of Egin, Idaho; Alvin (Patsy) Winegar, of Rocksprings, Wyo.; Donald (DeeDee) Winegar, of Parker, Idaho; Sue Winegar, of Egin, and Mary (Kim) Birch, of St. Anthony; and a daughter-in-law, Dodie; three brothers, Lee (Kay) Winegar, of St. Anthony; Max (Mayma) Winegar, of Tacoma, Wash.; and Wayne (Nancy) Winegar, of Parker, Idaho; 21 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Alan Winegar, Don Winegar, June Moon, and Shirley Souza; a son, Vern Winegar Jr.; and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Egin Bench LDS Church with Bishop Brandon Moon, officiating. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the services in Egin on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the St. Anthony VFW and American Legion. Condolences to the family may be sent to www.bidwellfuneralhome.com.
