Dorothy Barbara Rogstad Baum died March 21, 2008, in San Diego.
Dorothy was born Dec. 5, 1911 in Dillon, Mont., to Rudolph and Barbara Rogstad.
The family moved to Ashton in 1925, where she attended school.
After graduating from Idaho State Southern Branch in Pocatello, she began teaching in Drummond in 1933. It was there she met George Baum who had opened the George Baum Store.
They were married June 9, 1935.
Dorothy joined George in what was to become their successful business until they retired 30 years later and bought a home in Ashton.
Dorothy was an active member in the Ashton Community United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent and on many boards.
Music was one of her many talents. She taught piano, sang in choirs and directed the children's choirs in her church.
She was an active member of the Ashton Study Club, the P.E.O. sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization.
Dorothy was a loving and supportive mother of two daughters. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, camping, and spending time with friends and family.
For many years, the Baums spent winters in California and in 1980 bought a home in San Diego and continued to return to Ashton for the summer until 1997.
Dorothy lived at Grossmont Gardens Retirement Community the past four years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved George and sisters Annie Waugh, Nellie Holden, Julia Carter, Marcine Hutchison and brother Rudolph (Bud) Rogstad. She is survived by a sister, Wilma Johnston of Port Angeles, Wash., and two daughters, Bonnie (Dean) Pearson of Pullman, Wash., and Ann Marie (Darwin) Rytting of San Diego.
She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A family memorial was held in San Diego.
The Ashton service will be held Friday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at the Ashton Community United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara Bunsold officiating.
Burial will at the Pine View Cemetery in Ashton under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to the Ashton Community United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 366 in Ashton.
