William Lee Atchley, 60, of Rexburg, died March 3, 2011 at his home of a heart attack. He was born April 7, 1950 in St. Anthony to Wilbur and Carol Steck Atchley. He was raised on the family farm in Ashton. He started working at a very young age and was very knowledgeable of farming and ranching.
He married Wanda Maupin in St. Anthony, on Dec. 27, 1976. Throughout his life, he worked as a farmer, logger and coal miner. He was a very honest and caring man. He was wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He would take his grandsons to their special place, Grassy Lake, for fishing and hunting. There were no girls allowed. He raised a large and wonderful garden every year.
He loved his children and grandchildren very much. He spent many hours teaching them the outdoors. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda, and four children, Valerie Vance, Kris Eichten, Rick Atchley and Jamie Harris; his grandchildren, Shane Strange, Tiffany Strange, Kodie Vance, Brittney Checketts, Amanda Smith, Kole Hillman, Broc Hillman, Destany Hillman, Nathan Countryman, Kelsi Countryman, McKinley Atchley, Hunter Atchley, Brayden Mills, Zach Mills, Marlee Harris and Jessi Lovell; and a greatgrandson, Brecken Checketts. He is also survived by his siblings, Keith Atchley, Ron Atchley and Cynthia Angell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Plano LDS Chapel, with Bishop Randy Brown officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
