Wilma Blanchard Petersen, 82, of Idaho Falls, formerly of the Terreton-Mud Lake area, passed away June 28, 2014, at home from esophageal cancer. Her daughter, LaDonna, was able to stay with her during the last two months to help take care of her. She was under the care of Onesource Hospice.

She was born Nov. 23, 1931, to Henry Devere Blanchard and Rebecca Hansen Blanchard. She grew up and attended grade school in Chester, Idaho and graduated from South Fremont High School in 1949. She then attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.
On Nov. 30, 1956, she married Donald Orion Petersen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Terreton most of their married years before moving to Idaho Falls in 1990. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many auxiliary positions.
Wilma and her husband were able to go on some trips with their close friends, including Australia, Samoa and Hawaii. She was a great cook and enjoyed having her family over for family dinners and spending time together. Family and friends loved her rolls and scones and the plates of Christmas candy she would make each year. She loved to cook and do yard work and was very good at record keeping. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She was well loved by those who were privileged to know her.
Survivors include her three children, Paula (Ed) Eames, of Menan; Cory Petersen, of Hamer and LaDonna Petersen, from Orem, Utah; one brother, Dean Ray Blanchard and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, parents and two siblings, Norma Powell and Harold Blanchard.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, at 1 p.m. at the Rosewood Ward Church, 1345 Clarence Drive, Idaho Falls, Idaho (near the soccer fields in the Village.) The family will meet with friends Monday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Rosewood Ward Church and 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Ashton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.
