Ila Katie Grover McBride, 90, of Rexburg, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born May 4, 1923, in Archer, Idaho, the daughter of Raymond and Kate Browning Grover. She was the fourth child in a family of 12 children. Ila grew up living in Archer, until she was married.
As a young child, Ila enjoyed growing up with her siblings, playing games and working hard doing chores on the family farm. Ila attended school in Archer, graduated from the eighth grade, and then finished the rest of her schooling in Rexburg. Ila graduated from Madison High School in 1941. Ila was a good student and loved attending school.
Ila married Ray J. McBride while he was home on leave from the Marine Corps during World War II. They were married in Dillon, Mont., on Dec. 7, 1943. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 25, 1947. Ray and Ila were married for 63 years before Ray passed away in November 2006. They had four children, Lana, Don, Ryan and Bart. Ray and Ila made their first home in Archer, Idaho and then in 1951, they moved to Ashton, Idaho, where they lived until 1970. In 1970, they moved to Lyman, Idaho, and lived there until Ray passed away in 2006.
Ila was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including Cub Scouting, Relief Society presidencies and as Junior Sunday School coordinator. Ila loved serving others and also loved the Lord.
She worked for many years in different occupations, but probably the longest as a florist. She worked at Waynette's Floral and Fabric for many years and then opened her own business, Countryside Gardens. She was a very talented florist and created hundreds of beautiful floral pieces. She always made sure that she gave her customers just a little something extra special. She was also active in many civic organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and she was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
