Nelson, Eleanor Mary Balsi
Eleanor Mary Balsi Nelson Eleanor Mary Balsi Nelson, aged 91, passed away due to pneumonia on November 21, 2015 in Boise, Idaho, surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor was born to Louis William and Angelina (Denevi) Balsi in 1924 and grew up on the Balsi family homestead in Reno, Nevada. As a young girl, she loved life on the ranch surrounded by extended family. She enjoyed helping her mother provide 3 meals a day to their hired ranch hands and relatives, and later worked for Ring Lee Groceries on Liberty Street in Reno Nevada. During WW11 she donated time to the U.S.O. November 12th, 1944 she married Gilbert Hyrum Nelson and they made their home in Cleveland and Grace, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. Born to them were two children, daughter Jeannette Elaine Nelson (Johnson) and son David Hyrum Nelson. In addition to mothering, she worked as a bookkeeper with Gilbert in their Grace Hardware Store. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, but known best for her graceful way of facing whatever life brought her way. Eleanor was preceded in death by both of their children, and her brother Vernon Balsi. She joins many other beloved family members. She is survived by her husband of 71 years Gilbert Hyrum Nelson, 3 Grandchildren; Jodie Rindlisbacher (Blake), Nicole Farnes (Darren), and Justin Johnson (Lori Thomas) 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. In-laws Naomi (Nelson) Wilde of Mink Creek, Idaho. Edwin and Theone (VanDenakker) Nelson of Pocatello, Idaho. Also surviving are her brother Bill Balsi (Grace Azcarate) and sister in law Genevieve Balsi and numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor's gentle demeanor and easy smile will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Her serenity as she left this world was her final gift to her family - a last act that is so very fitting of one who continually put the needs of others first. A private family memorial will be held in Boise, Idaho on November 28, 2015 with a graveside service to be held in Grace, Idaho in the spring. Interment will be in the Cleveland, Idaho Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace District Library, P.O. Box B, Grace Idaho 83241.
