Betty Virginia Sparks Johnston was born on February 28, 1921 in Barnsdall, OK. She grew up in Kansas City, MO, and was a long time resident of Reno, NV. On February 4, 2013, Betty passed away peacefully at Rosewood Rehabilitation Center in Sparks after a short illness. She was 91 years old.

Betty is survived by her daughter Chloe Lowe (Glen), NV, son Daniell Henderson, MT, and stepson Robert Johnston (Peggy), CA. In addition, grandchildren Clayton Henderson, OH, Collin Henderson, OR, and step-grandson Sam, CA; three step-granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and five, step-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. Betty's husband of many years, Martin B. Johnston and stepson Frank Johnston preceded her in death.

Betty served in the US Marine Corps during WW II, was an active member of the DAR Nevada Sagebrush Chapter, Ducks Unlimited, 20th Century Club and Carmel and Reno Catholic Church. She and her husband Marty supported many local and national charities and educational programs. An avid outdoor person, Betty enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and tennis. She was a world wide traveler.

A memorial service was held at Walton's Funeral Home in Reno. Interment will be held in Bend, OR at a later date.
