Beloved Husband, Father, Brother and Uncle, Blakely Patrick (Pat) Landell, 71 passed away unexpectedly August 27, 2013 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
A Nevada resident the first 18 years and final 8 years of his life, he was born August 5, 1942 in Denver Colorado, the Son of Gilbert Landell Jr. and Sara Anne Landell of Elko. He grew up in Elko, and attended Elko schools, graduating with honors from Elko High School in 1960, where he earned a Fleischman scholarship, which he utilized to to attend the University of Notre Dame
, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UCLA
, eventually earning a B.S in Mathematics from UCLA in 1965.
He first developed his interest in sports in Elko where he was an outstanding athlete, participating in Nevada state championship teams in Elko County Little League baseball and Elko High School Football. He earned All-State honors in football playing for the Elko Indians in 1959. His business career spanned more than 30 years as a Computer Systems Analyst in the aerospace industry, pioneering in research of speech science.
He had a lifetime interest in many Sports, especially Horse Racing & Baseball. He was also a keen student of sports, with emphasis on Baseball Sabermetrics and Thoroughbred Horse Breeding. He loved music from Bob Dylan to Vivaldi, enjoyed reading a wide variety of books, with a special interest in the reading and reciting of poetry. He was a devout Catholic, attending Holy Mass several times a week, even following a debilitating stroke in 2011.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Michael Cullen Landell, He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 Years Ann, and Son Brendan Patrick of Pittsburgh, PA, sister Penny Anne Getts of Reno, brothers Gilbert Landell III of Reno and Charles Victor (Vic) Landell of Carson City, nephews Chan Griswold of Reno, Gilbert Landell IV of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and niece Mayanne Getts Coyne of Reno.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday September 4, 2013 at St Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, 310 West Second Street, Reno, NV.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat's name to the Cathedral Choristers of Reno Program, c/o St Thomas Aquinas Cathedral.
