Charles Jon Stokes passed away peacefully at his residence, July 8, 2013. He leaves behind his first wife Suzanne, daughter Deborah Stokes; grandson Colton Capps; stepdaughter Sara (Dirk) Kurtz-Babylon; grandchildren Hunter and Charlize. His second wife Dawn; son Charles Caleb Stokes; step-children Jason (Erin) Hall; granddaughter Michaela, Seth (Ashley) Hall; grandsons Steven and Chase, Sarah Sioux Hall; grandsons Skylar and Christopher.

Jon was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles Jasper and Beth Stokes as well as brother, Del Stokes, whom he loved dearly. He was proud to honor his brother's service in the United States Navy.

He is survived by his sister, Leslee (Robert) Frey of Walnut Creek, California and several nieces and nephews.

Jon was born on, September 3, 1951, in San Francisco, California. In his younger years, he worked at the Palo-Mar Stables in Daly City, California. It was through this experience that he developed a love of horses and horseback riding. He also formed long lasting friends at the stables that were dear to him throughout his life.

Jon loved "The Cowboy Way" - so much that his daughter, Deborah, often referred to him as an 'Old Country Pops'. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. At one time he joined the Reno Rodeo Association and remained a strong supporter.

Jon relocated to Carson City, Nevada in 1978. Later, he moved to Reno and worked in sales at various tire shops in the Reno/Sparks area until his retirement in 2008.

Jon had an artistic side that was admired by those fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of his talent. He had a caring heart, and always had a good story to share. He will be missed; however, will never be forgotten by those that knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank the Reno Vista residents that shared their time in order to assist Jon in the later decline of his health. Their compassion and assistance did not go unnoticed and his family will be forever grateful.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
