Our adored mother, Dale Doyle Carter died Friday, October 12, 2012 of cancer. She was born May 3, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Dale was the second daughter born to Dale and Ruth Doyle. She grew up in Hollywood and was the first female senior class president at Hollywood High School. Growing up, Dale spent much time with her family at their small beach house in Oxnard, California providing some of her fondest childhood memories. Dale and her surviving sister Dorothy Hine, forged a life-long bond and special closeness in these early days. She attended Redlands College and the University of Southern California. After ten years of marriage to Dick Atchison, Dale came to Reno with her young son, Rick to obtain a divorce and start a new life. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Elko native Robert Allen Carter who was then living in Reno. They had originally met and dated while attending USC. In 1958 identical twin boys, Matt and John joined the family of three. Dale was primarily a homemaker but also helped Bob with their various entrepreneurial enterprises over the years. Life as a Nevadan took over and Dale learned to snow and water ski, deer hunt and much more. She and Bob loved traveling. In 1965-after Rick's first year at Reno High they took the twins out of kindergarten and they all headed across country to Montreal to board a ship to Europe. After renting a house as a base near Davos, Switzerland, they covered all of Western Europe over a number of months in their yellow GMC suburban (The Yellow Peril!). After shipping the GMC home, the family cruised to Australia and eventually flew to New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii before returning to Reno for a ski excursion across the west. After that Dale and Bob continued to travel by RV on many far off treks including National Parks and American landmarks as well as Alaska with Matt and John. As the boys grew up and departed home, Kona, Hawaii became an annual visit for Bob and Dale, not to mention many trips to USC football games. Her love and kindness will be greatly missed by her family, her extended family and friends. Dale could always be seen at one of her five grandchildren's many school and sporting events. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by her older sister, Dorothy Hine (Ron), and niece little Dale of Westlake Village, California and her niece Linda Achiolas (Spyro) of Rhodes, Greece as well as her three loving sons, Rick Atchison (Pam Bugge), Matt Carter (Debbie) and John Carter (Vicki) all of Reno. Her five grandchildren, Kristine, Paul, Laura, Kyle Carter, and Colin Atchison are either recent graduates or attend the University of Nevada. A Celebration of Life will be held at the 19th Hole at Lakeridge Golf Course on Saturday, October 27th from 1-4 p.m for family and friends. At 2 p.m. prayers and a few of the enjoyable events in our mother's life will be recounted. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers to please send donations to the .
