David Wilbur Cantrell, Jr. of Sparks, Nevada, passed away peacefully October 5, 2013 with his wife Ruth and daughter Mary at his side. Born in Licking, Missouri, on September 26, 1926, he had just had his 87th birthday.

Dave is survived by his wife of 48 years Ruth Wood Cantrell, his daughter Mary Cantrell, his stepson David Payne and siblings Vernon Cantrell, Glenda Meyers, Larry Cantrell, and Patsy Zoellner along with nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country. He was predeceased by his son, Michael David Cantrell, and siblings Leonard Cantrell, Doris Fowler, Gloria Jackson, and Thomas Cantrell. He also leaves behind best friends, Stan Jones and Jess Jenkins.

Dave served in the Navy during World War II and moved to Reno/Sparks in 1949. He retired at age 50 from Nevada Sheet Metal after more than 25 years. He was union president for over 20 years. His proudest accomplishment was the huge copper hood over the Squaw Valley Lodge fireplace.

After he retired he travelled with Ruth and went hunting or fishing wherever he could. He made many visits back to Missouri especially during wild turkey hunting season.
