Donald Clarence Geyer
Don Geyer was born on January 30, 1923, and passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2013, at the age of 90.
Don was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota, but grew up in Crawford, Nebraska. His military career began when he joined the U.S. Army
Air Corps in 1942. Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to the 409th Bombardment Squadron as an aerial gunner. During WWII
, he flew 34 bombing missions. Don was later recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict
in 1950. Following this military service, Don was employed by the Southern Pacific Company as a telegrapher-dispatcher. It was while working in Idaho for the railroad that he met his wife, Charlotte, who preceded him in death many years ago.
Don's railroad employment moved the family to Wells and later to Sparks in the early 1950s. Once here, he resumed his military career by joining the Nevada Air National Guard in 1958. He made many wonderful, life-long friends while serving with the "High Rollers" for 25 years.
Don enjoyed traveling and always had especially fond memories of a trip to Savannah, Georgia, with his son and one to Norwich and Hardwick, England, with his grandson. For many years, too, he volunteered at the National Automobile Museum, researching information on historic cars.
Don is survived by his son, Ron, daughter-in-law, Mary, and his grandson, Sean to whom he was a very loving father and grandfather.
