Frank Salvatore 1924-2013
Frank Salvatore, of Sparks, NV passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013. He was 89.
Frank was born March 11, 1924 to Firino Salvatore and Carmela D 'Angelo Salvatore in Marianna, Pennsylvania, and raised in a small coal mining neighborhood Pike Mine, Brownsville, PA. At 17, he joined the Navy and was a gunner on numerous ships during World War II. After the war, he met his soul mate, Dolores Ann "Dee" Sally, and they were married for 69 years. Frank and Dee moved to Nevada in 1952, and Frank worked as a brakeman-conductor for the Southern Pacific Railroad for almost 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge
, American Legion, and Sons of Italy. He stayed very active and was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and traveling. He especially enjoyed being surrounded by family, as well as socializing with his friends. He was very proud of his Italian heritage, and touched the hearts of so many. He will be dearly missed by all and forever in the hearts of his children and grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his two daughters, Kimberly J. Burns (Lonnie), and Carmie Salvatore-Hansen (Patrick), and blessed with five grandchildren, Matt Burns, Megan Brown (Cody), Frank Knighton, Ben Knighton, Karlie Callahan (Nick), and one great-granddaughter Ava Knighton; his brother Anthony "Tony" Salvatore (deceased), nieces Janet Hallman (Butch), Toni Davidson (Dave), sister-in-law Joan Camino, brother-in-laws Melvin Sally and Bill Sally (deceased); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in the U.S., and Italy.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sparks, 2900 N. McCarran Blvd, Sparks, on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Friends are welcome to join the family for the reception luncheon in the church hall immediately following Mass. Burial with military Navy service honors will commence at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, 2700 North Virginia St., Reno at 2:00p.m. All who knew Frank are invited to share their memories on the online Guest Book at waltonsfuneralhomes.com
