James Harlan Stowell

James was born in Portland, OR, on June 16, 1930 to Harley Pratt and Louise Stowell. He was raised on a farm in McMinnville, OR, and entered the United States Air Force following high school graduation. He was honorably discharged at Stead Air Force Base and remained in Reno.

Jim was an active member of St Peter Canisius Catholic Church in Sun Valley, where he served as a hospitality minister, greeting other parishioners. It was a good fit for Jim because he made friends of everyone. He was a Master Gardener (Jungle Jim the Garden Guy). He was proud to have 41 years of sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous (Pink Jim). He was a cofounder & administrator at Gemini Group home.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Stowell of Reno; brothers, Robert (Phyllis), and Harley (Maggy); sister-in-law Darcy McGwinn; nieces, Arielle Duhon, Colleen Day (Harry), Holly Stowell, Robin Rodriguez (Guillermo), Amy Ziesmer (Dan), and grand niece, Gabriella Rodriguez.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Canisius Church in Sun Valley at 3 pm Monday, October 7. Inurnment will be at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley at 11am, Tuesday October 8.

The family would like to thank the VA Hospital for their devoted care of James.
