July 2, 2013
JoAnn Karam Raad, born JoAnn Marie Wedo, age 55, died unexpectedly on July 2, 2013, with her family and friends by her side. JoAnn was born in Waukon, Iowa, to Duane and Bernice (Ellingson) Wedo. She spent her youth with her brothers Lyle, John, Jim, and Mark, on their family farm. She was involved in music, drama, and leadership at a young age and remained dedicated to these passions her entire life. After school she traveled to Southern California where she met her first husband, Francois Karam, whom she wed shortly after. They fell in love with Lake Tahoe and moved to Reno, NV, to be nearby. They started their first business, and had three children: Phillip, Matthew, and Aime.
When Francois passed away in 1994, Jean-Pierre Raad, an old family friend, came to assist with running the business. JoAnn and Jean-Pierre fell in love and were wed. Together, they followed their entrepreneurial spirit and founded a number of local businesses. They decided to pursue higher-education together and JoAnn graduated, with honors, from the University of Nevada, Reno. She went on to teach accounting at Morrison University. Her life experience and education lead to a career as an independent bookkeeper and financial advisor for numerous businesses and individuals.
JoAnn lived by example with strong work ethic, faith, and a welcoming heart. Her passions were her family, entertaining friends, and singing with her church choir and her daughter. She took great joy in contributing her professional talents to her church and to the Veteran's Guest House, where she served as Financial Secretary. She loved the outdoors and traveled extensively with her family.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her first husband, her brother, John, and her father. She is survived by her husband Jean-Pierre, mother, three brothers, three children, and two grandchildren, Aiden and Lydia.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on July 6 at 11 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Reno, NV.
