Lucian Quinn Simpkins

Lucian Quinn Simpkins of Sparks died on April 20, 2013. Luke was born on September 14, 1931 in Harrison, Arkansas, where he grew up. He served in the United States Air Force Security Service from 1952 to 1956 as a cryptographer, serving in Washington, D.C. and Tripoli, Libya. He returned to Carlin, NV where he was employed by the Southern Pacific Company as a conductor. In 1961 he moved to Sparks and retired from the railroad in 1993 after 43 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberta and Alvin Simpkins and his brothers, John, Bradford (Ford), and Weyman (Gus). He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Margo Nielsen (Erik), grandchildren Erika, Austin and Gage, all of Reno; son, Joseph (Rachelle), grandchildren Cosette, Eponine and Cassandra all of Castle Hayne, NC; and brother Alvin (Boomer) of Carlin, NV. Other survivors include very special sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Inurnment will take place at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations in his name may be made to Habitat for Humanity in Reno.
