Melvin G. Fraley, Jr. passed away Sunday evening, March 24, 2013, at home surrounded by peace and love. He fought a gallant battle against cancer, doing so with courage, grace and humor. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 21, 1946 to Melvin G. Fraley, Sr. and Margaret Clarke Fraley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dawn Knofske. He is survived by his wife, Karen Swaney Fraley, sister Ellen Trout (Tom), daughters Nicole Ford (Eric), Lindsay Rencher, stepson Eric Swaney, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mel served in the U. S. Air Force in Viet Nam.
He was most proud of serving in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department from 1972 to 1982. He moved to Reno in 1995, where he was employed in casino security. He retired in 2006.
Services will be at Final Wishes Funeral Home at 437 Stoker Avenue, inside Mountain View Cemetery, on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 1100, with visitation preceding. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in the Veteran's Section.
