Robert B. Jersey left this earth, to be with the Lord, on June 25, 2013. He passed quickly and unexpectedly from cardiac arrest. Robert was preceded in death by his father Bernard Jersey and his mother Faith Fitzgibbons. Robert was born in Morrisonville, New York, October 18, 1926.
Surviving Robert are his wife Marilyn and three children: daughters Susan Klein (Richard), Heidi Gero (Norman), and son David Jersey (Kim); two stepdaughters, Julie Stormfeltz and Sandra Travers and several grandchildren: Derek Gero, Alex and Heidi Jersey, Cherice Stormfeltz, Brandy, Brandon and Destiny Travers.
Robert entered the service in March 1945 and served in the Army/Air force during World War II
and was honorably discharged in 1949.
After the service, he had several different jobs. Robert operated the MARS Station at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York and was in Civil Defense. Then he went to work with his father at Mason Lumber Company. He also worked for the State Bank of Albany, New York for 15 years and later worked for the Keeseville National Bank which he left as Assistant Vice President to move to Reno, NV in 1970. In Nevada he worked for Lombards Lafayette and Dunlap Electronics in sales. He retired from International Game Technology in customer service.
Robert was an amateur radio enthusiast and attended the Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Society, Inc. His call sign was W7IHP. He enjoyed camping, hiking, vacationing in many of the state and national parks, photography, developing his own slides and pictures, scuba diving, archery, target shooting, love of nature, music, and taught a Bible study group for 7 years.
Those who knew Robert said he was a very caring man and always helped everyone. He was a great father, husband and grandfather. We will all dearly miss him.
The Jersey family invites friends and well wishers to participate in Robert's Celebration of Life on Saturday July 13, 2013 at H.O.P.E. Church of the Nazarene, 205 W. Gepford Parkway, Sun Valley, Nevada at 10:00 AM with food to follow. A military funeral will be held at a later date in Fernley NV at the V.A. Cemetery.
