Joyce Valrea Chase
March 20, 1928
December 31, 2012
Joyce Valrea Chase is not a woman easily described. At her best, she was brilliant, creative, vivacious, glamorous, and utterly unstoppable. Born on March 20, 1928 into a tumultuous marriage beleaguered by poverty, she learned quickly to fight for survival with her most powerful weapons: audacity, charm, and personality. There's no question that she made an impact during her life—as no one who met her ever felt ambivalent about the interaction or ever forgot her!
Valrea passed away on Dec. 31, 2012, and was preceded in death by her late husband Curtis Chase and her sweet great-grandson, Carter Eaton. Valrea is survived by her three children, Coyt Randal Johnston of Dallas, TX; Devon Johnston of Bentonville, AK; and Makita Schichtel of Wichita Falls, TX; by her grandchildren, Jessica, Coyt, Meredith, Vanessa, Morgan, Brandon, Brett, Abigail, Kirina, Richard, Veronica, Brady, Ashley, and Maci; and her great-grandchildren Riley, William, Parker, Porter, Reagan, Lucas, Kaleb, Walter, Madilyne, and Briggs.
A small service will be held in Reno on Friday, January 4 at 11am at La Paloma Funeral Services, 5301 Longley Lane.
