William "Bill" Burrous

William "Bill" Burrous passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in Reno, Nevada. Bill was born in Hannibal, Missouri on May 6, 1924 and grew up in Elkhart, Indiana. He served in the US Army
during World War II
in the European Theater in Italy, receiving the Order of the Purple Heart
. Bill married the love of his life, Betty, in 1946. He moved his family to California in 1956 to further his career.
His careers included upper management positions with Shoe Corporation of America, Taubman Company, Inc., and Duffel Finance and Construction Company.
Bill served his community with great pride and commitment as a member of the following: Washoe County District Health Board, Nevada States Fair - President, Nevada State Boy Scout Council Executive Board, REMSA Executive Board, Nevada Opera Association Executive Board, Executive Association of Retailers, Reno Rotary Club
, Nevada Legislative Action Committee, and Greater Reno Chamber of Commerce.
He was a long time member of the Boy Scouts of America. Bill had the distinction of becoming one of the youngest Scouts to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. In recent years, he was presented Scouting's highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award, by the Nevada Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty. Barbara (Burrous) Fabre, Rev. Peter Fabre, Thomas Burrous and Lynne Burrous were proud to call him Dad. Thomas was his loving caregiver for the last three years. He enjoyed his 5 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 2:00pm at Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary at 2155 Kietzke Lane, with a reception to follow at his son's home.
Bill will be interred at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bill's honor to the Boy Scouts of America.
